STAR

You have a couple of options when it comes to STAR and student information/management and reports.  You can email me if you need new students added to your classes or moved around or whenever you want any reports run, or you can go the self-serve route.
It is never a problem for me to add or manage students or run reports, but if you want to do it, you can.  Email me and I will send you the password and it will let you in to any of the STAR applications.  If you add a student, please do not use nicknames.  Before you add a student, please double check the list to make sure that student is not already there.  We pay for slots based on enrollment and can’t afford to double enter any kids.
The most common report is the Reading Range report.  Click on Reports on the main screen.  Scroll down until you see Reading Range, click on it.  Click on Custom and then the next button.  Choose “teacher” and next.  Find and click on your name.  Keep clicking next until you get to “finish”, then “Preview” is always a good idea to make sure you are actually getting what you want. Let me know if you need any training or help with STAR.

Nettrekker

http://elementary.nettrekker.com/subject/ NetTrekker is not a database, but instead an internet search already done for you.   NetTrekker is a listing of websites that are appropriate for school age children.   Rather than sending your students to Google, you can send them to NetTrekker without worrying what they will find.  For teachers, the searching is done for you.  Say you are doing a unit on space and stars.  NetTrekker has done the work for you…you go to NetTrekker and pull up the list of websites that deal with stars.  You can follow the links and find many many sites that will help you in your space and stars unit. NetTrekker takes the guess work and suprise out of searching the internet.  If you search “star” in NetTrekker, you will get 320 hits.  If you search “star” in Google, you get 849,000,000 sites, and very few of those have to do with star as in outer space star, but mostly with Star magazine or star as in Hollywood star.
